What was your inspiration?

what made you want to become a martial artist? And what has kept you doing what you do?

I took up judo at age 14, ia have been doing it for one year. i took it up because i felt my kung fu lacked completeness. What kept me in it is the differance of the training, in kung fu i was a top dog, but in judo, im a poodle.

What was your inspiration?
My dad came back from Thailand during the Viet Nam war, and had earned his black belt in Tae kwon Do (Song Mu Kwan).

*He tried to teach my brother and me the art.

**My brother blew it off, and I really enjoyed it.

I don't know why I got into Kendo

*I eventually earned my Nidan as a teenager before we left Japan.

I don't know why I got into Judo in college.

*I got the dog-snot beat out of me during the tournaments, and this kept me from a career in law enforcement

I got back into the martial arts after training on my own for the past 25 yrs.

Fudokan Karate!

*Wow!

*An Eastern European offshoot of Shotokan Karate.

*Absolutely a TOTAL blast!

*The sensei, Dr. Stan Holodkov, was a personal friend of mine for several years before I returned to organized classes.

*After my divorce, I thought, "What the heck?"

*I am SO thankful that I'm finally "back" in an organized class/dojo setting.

Reply:Haha I've always wanted to be a martial artist because of all those kung fu movies. My favorites were the many Jackie Chan movies. One time I was six or something and went to a see a Karate class but never ended up taking it. Martial arts were kind of not big in me before middle school but I started watching the EMC on youtube. I still do freerunning/parkour and I took Taekwondo at age 12 to help. Now I'm more into TKD then parkour and I have a big desire to learn a lot of martial arts. I'm looking into taking either taichi or jujitsu pretty soon. I've done wrestling at school and pretty much sucked compared to my friends. I won JV leagues really easily but varsity is too hard for me. That's why I know I suck on ground and I want to do jujitsu. I want to take taichi because I've always liked Chinese martial arts and there's a good teacher near me.
Reply:My parents put me in karate when I was 8 because I was acting up in school, they thought it would teach me discipline and self control-- which I think it did in a way. I was always nervous and anxious about going, I can still remember getting a stomach ache right as my parents car pulled into the parking lot. The funny thing is, I think the nature of martial arts is what became my inspiration for taking Martial arts. The dojo they had me go to was a very competitive one. I learned quickly that especially in sparring, the bigger and stronger people were usually the ones who "won" the matches. I know now this isn't always true-- but the school I went to emphasized strength and endurance over technique and quality. Being a petite female, I got angry and bitter about always being pushed around by jerks who thought they could over power me with their size. I left that school when I was a teenager, and went on to several different schools and styles. I decided that I never wanted anyone-- martial artist or otherwise-- to push me or overpower me. What kept me going is the desire to look people in the eyes, no matter their size or status, and say "don't mess with me, because I can wipe the floor with you."
Reply:I started because I like to fight and I liked the art. I continue for these reasons and because I want to help others learn to defend themselves
Reply:I went to the movies and saw Enter the Dragon and fist of fury.I had to get into something like Kung Fu,but settled for Goju-Ryu,and loved it every since my first workout. Before I knew it I was hitting tournaments and winning Kumite, and Kata.

Reply:Wanting to be well rounded, I saw the Movies when I was a kid and I wanted to be better than them. Now I teach, and the great feeling I get when someone "gets it" is worth the training. It's so rewarding that My class is completely FREE. Thats right FREE, I give back what was givin to Me.
Reply:i hate wheen ppl who call karate "martial arts" but it wuz my little bro. cuz he wuz all like ha ha ha im a white belt and ure a nothing belt so i got into karate and whupped his *** i really like it though
Reply:what inspired me to become a martial-artist came from my mentor, he trained me in the art of discipline and i started working up different moves from there. I became inpsired to martial-arts primarily because i needed to leanr some form of self-defense and i am a small person so i trained myself to learn MMA ( mixed martial-arts) and from there became quite well at it.
