Want to train in martial art again?

Am I too old "42" I use to do it years ago Tae kwon do kung fu kick boxing. The problem is I've been training at a club with my son sparring and I have found the students are soft. Which I believe you practice like you play in real time situation. Well I was sparring with a 3rd degree black belt and put him on the ground twice 1n 5 minutes and he left the floor and wined to the teacher. Which I've trained in the past alot but I'm 42 in decent shape have'nt trained in martial arts in 15 years he was half my age "what is the deal". But that is not the only incident it I hit real hard and i don't get hurt easily and it seems like the students are afraid of me and I've tried to spar with the instructors but they keep telling me they can't. What are these students going to do in the street in a real life situation "did I mention I'm 5'10 230llbs so I'm really not that intimidating" How do I find a place that is serious about real life situations and will let me spar where people can takeit

Want to train in martial art again?
your only as old as the woman you feel.maybe your looking at it the wrong way?for a start ppl of today will never have the pain tolerance of ppl your age group.and i have many bbs and have had many fights in the ring and real life or death ones, ive been doing and teaching ma for 37 yearts and the most iv'e been hurt is by white belts?and if i was the instructer i wouldn't spar you either,to many reasons to go into it.sparring does'nt meanshit in real life situations anyway.reading you question i would have thought you knew that anyway?and like i keep saying it doesn't matter what rank you are,how old you are,how good you are,it doesn't meanshit if you dont have any real experience.whats a 20 year old 6th dan kyoshi going to teach you about real life situations?the same as a50 year old 6th dan kyoshi thats never had any real life experience.touranaments, dojos, ring fighting etc are nothing like real life situations, especially if it's life or death.you'll be hard pressed to find anyone these days to teach for real.
Reply:no i said your only as old as the woman you feel.it's a saying.and i knew you had trained hard %26amp; wasn't a wb.i can read between the lines at 42 you should be able to as well. Report It

Reply:42? Spring chicken. You're definately NOT too old. These morons are just too young. If they are too soft, then harden them up. You're probably going to a "rich kid" gym. Try going to a "real person" gym. I"m sure they will be glad to kick your *** there.
Reply:It sounds like you are going to a black belt factory . Try a style with more actual contact . Here's a few suggestions: CHA 3 kenpo , kajukenbo , wun hop kuen do , muay thai , and kali. These styles use actual contact , not that point sparring , tag I win crap . Just remember you're never too old , and if they can't take it it just goes to prove the point .
Reply:Twister: It's time to find a new school. Go to one that focuses on MMA. I bet you will have no problem finding guys who will bang with you everyday as long as you want.

Your 42 yrs. young and have lots of time to still train!

Ray H: Sounds like you live or used to live in Hawaii? I tried CHA 3 (Tiwanak sp? was the instructor) for a year up near the airport many years ago, but quit because I was so vain at the time and didn't want to condition my knuckles and tired of black eyes from sparring with the chicks!
Reply:I started Tae Kwon Do at age 44. Have fun!
