For every martial artist?

i need your help,

my tutor who comes to my house and teaches me math said he maybe opening a chineese kung fu class next yr

should i go to it

he would charge £4 for 2 hrs and train 2wice a week

who would win in a fight

a chineese kung fy person or a tkd practitoner

both have same amount of training and both trained for the same amount of yrs

thank you

For every martial artist?
All things being equal, the TKD practitioner would win on Monday. The CKF practitioner would win on Tuesday, the TKD guy on Wednesday, the CKF guy on Thursday, the TKD guy on Friday and the CKF guy on Saturday. Sunday they both go to the beach and show off for the girls.

There is no superior art.
Reply:hmm i'm not so sure about that.. people say kung fu is better.. i do Taekwondo and we learn self defences, patterns etc.. i like taekwondo better than kung fu
Reply:You'll never see a classic style kung fu or TKD practitioner win in UFC, Pride, Elite XC, K1, Bodog or any other MMA event...don't waste your time..go learn some ground game
Reply:It depends on his credentilas as a Kung Fu instructor %26amp; tour current Sabunim's credentials as a TKD instructor, %26amp; your comfort level with them. Neither art is "better" than the other.
Reply:Well obviously you are trying to chose between two particular arts, and I understand that.

As far as the choice between which one.

My advice to you would be go to whichever one spars more, or (in this case, spars at all).

Sparring is a big part of being a truly effective fighter, you cannot be profecient at a technique without testing against someone who is trying to keep you from doing it.

Forms, Kata, board breaking, people throwing a punch then standing there while you perform a complicated multistep set of techniques to eliminate him isn't going to actually help you be profecient against someone who is really trying to hurt you.

So I would say whoever spars more, and spars the hardest. The closest you can get to 100% resistance and effort is the best way to go.

So between a CKF, or TKD guy, the guy who wins is the guy who actually has experience using his style against someone who is truly trying to fight him. (even with rules)

Hope that helps!

Wow Justin,

You show sparring footage of some demo to support your claims that it is a myth about fights going to the ground? Notice that none of those kicks even come close to hitting the actual person? And most REAL kicks would not be stopped by a simple hand block (not to mention breaking your hands, body conditioning or not, large bone vs. many small bones = many small bones breaking)

Since you are so prone to videos that have no relevance:

Street fighting compilation (how many of these end up on the ground or in a grappling situation?)

something to think about Justin.

You want the effectiveness of ground fighting? As a security worker, every single physical altercation I had ended up on the ground, or at the very least a grappling situation.

Why do you think cops bring guys to the ground? To control them because of it's effectiveness. Just something to think about...
Reply:Bas Rutten has a taekwondo black belt.

Back where I used to live I knew a lightweight duder that did some sort of MMA that used bare hands but all open hand strikes. I saw a ref git mad at him and take points away for a neck chop...he trained at the taekwondo place I was at. It seemed in his vids that he primarily used his powerful low kick and sweeps to win matches. He was always in there practicing that low kick. Sounded like a gunshot every damn time he kicked the thai bag. He'd also do full speed submission practices with one of the black belts. I think he scared people off from that place.

Whoever thinks tae kwon do is for chumps, go challenge a ROK marine to a fight. Or even an olympic tkd competitor.
Reply:I'm partial to kung fu, but probably because my school also has ground game training as well - so I would have to go for kung fu with ground fighting. If he's opening up a school ---- what's his credentials??? I probably wouldn't go unless he's got a lot of experience winning and has gone through extensive training on how to teach. Some people win tournaments think they can teach... If someone is naturally talented, I think its harder for them to teach it.
Reply:Now look at my site and see my past injury

and then think of the benefit of Wu Shu

it is not Fighting

But then it is

Fighting Without Fighting

As Bruce Lee Said

The best fight is the one for Non Violence
Reply:The thing is no martial art is supperior to any other b/c all to most martial arts are very similar to another. so its not the style that is superior, its the expirience and training of that individual fighter
Reply:about 90% of all fights end up on the ground, so if one of them knows any Ju Jitsu then that guy would win.
Reply:Probably the Taekwondo Martial artist's. btw, its a myth that 90% of all fights end up on the ground.

Reply:TKD Ash,

Do not get caught up in the what if factor discussion. It will only lead to prideful boasts and fighting. You should be aware of this and just study what you have been learning. You seem to enjoy it.

When you are older and have many years of training then search for some new Martial Arts to study.

You must fill your first cup to truly empty it again.

And you must truly empty your cup to fill it again.

If you jump from style to style you will only learn nothing about alot of different styles.
