Does having double jointed fingers make some martial arts harmful to learn?

My thumbs and middle fingers are double jointed. I want to take Eagle Claw and Tiger Claw Kung fu for mental and physical excercise. I don't know if having double jointed fingers would be an advatage. Would this make me more prone to damaging my hands? I have been using Chin Na training rings and stones to strengthen my fingers for about 2 months, but still have reservations.

Develop strong hands and "Always" keep this in mind when training and sparring.

Follow the same precautions as those that have had dislocated thums and fingers in the past
Reply:It can be. For instance my friend is really flexible and he takes Jiu Jitsu, well the problem is sometimes he doesn't know when to tap before he gets injured. Make sure you know the limitations of your body.
Reply:Makes it better to learn because you are more flexible, and it enhances your ability to compete and do options which other people may or may not have the opportunity to perform as well, according to their ways. Thanks.
Reply:I would recommend that you practice a different art for your finger strength, like the piano. - No joke, play piano for one hour a day to add finger strength %26amp; practice your Eagle Claw %26amp; Tiger Claw with impunity. But i'm interested in learning what your instructor said about your hands, if you can train in Chin Na, you should have no fear!

Best of luck!
Reply:Jump just DO It!!! (say it with Arnold's accent)
Reply:Use a Tennis Ball, and go train. If You put a negaitve light on it, then it will be a negative thing. think positive, be positive and You will get positive results.
Reply:I say go for it! I train in Northern Eagle Claw Kung Fu, and though I don't have double jointed fingers, I am REALLY flexable. Just be aware that, even though you;'re flexable, you're not made of rubber and you CAN go too far. i learned the hard way trying to do the splits. I can do them now, but I have to be careful at how long I hold the pose and how fast I go down into it because i tried to go too far too fast.

Ask your master in Eagle Claw and Tiger Claw what he/she reccomends for your hands. explain your worries (even if it's embarassing) and ask for honest advice. If he/she is a good master, he/she will give it to your straight up. Don't be afraid to ask, and don't be afraid to try.
